Seven wins ratings week and begins to close on yet another yearly win

Seven appears set to win the ratings year in close to record breaking time after clocking up another weekly win.

Of the official ratings year so far, Seven has won all but three weeks, leaving it needing just five more weekly wins to take the 40-week official ratings year in the headline measure of metro all-people audience.

Even the series final of the Voice on Nine wasn’t enough to stop Seven from taking another weekly victory.

Seven made sure of the weekly victory with a metro share of 19.6%, ahead of Nine’s 14.2%, ABC’s 14.1% and Ten’s 7.2%.

Last year Seven wrapped up the ratings year in near record time when it clocked up its 21st weekly win on August 20. With the finale of House Rules yet to come, this year Seven could get across the line even sooner.

Saturday’s top rating program was Seven News, with an average metro audience of 831,000, rising to a national audience of 1.3m when regional numbers are included.

AFL was also a major drawcard for Seven on Saturday, with the AFL clash between St Kilda and Richmond drawing 260,000 viewers in Melbourne, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.

On pay TV, the NRL clash between Storm and Eels rated 184,000 metro viewers on Fox League. And the rugby league thriller between the British Lions and the All Blacks rated 165,000 for Fox Sports.

Meanwhile, in entertainment shows, The ABC’s Father Brown came out top with 708,000 metro viewers, rising to 1.054m including regional numbers.

In the breakfast battle, Seven’s Weekend Sunrise saw off Nine’s Weekend Today by 294,000 to 289,000.

In weekly share, Seven finished the week on 19.9%, ahead of Nine’s 18.8% and Ten’s 13.3%.

The top program for the week nationally was Seven News Sunday with 1.955m viewers, just ahead of The Voice’s 1.916m for the announcement of the winner of The Voice.
