Seven’s case with former Spotlight journalist ‘resolved’

Seven West Media’s fair work case with a former journalist from its Spotlight programme has reportedly been settled.

Per The Australian, and the public court listing, the case between Seven and Amelia Saw has been “resolved”, while mediation files have also been closed.

Saw filed the suit on September 6 claiming a “general breach of protections” during her time at Seven.

Just last month, the media giant sought suppression orders over parts of the potentially “salacious” communications and emails put forward by Saw, which were granted by Justice Nye Perram.

At the time, Barrister Kate Eastman – acting on behalf of Seven –that if parts of the documents were made public it would put Seven “in a particularly difficult position in terms of preparing for a mediation”.

“It’s not our submission that we’re saying ‘we are prejudiced,’” Eastman said.

“What we’re saying is that the interests and the process of justice is prejudiced by the release of this information at this stage.”

Seven declined to comment when contacted by Mumbrella.

The news comes just days after Seven West Media CEO, Jeff Howard, addressed a number allegations and misconduct aimed at the company.

Opening the company’s Upfront presentation in Sydney last week, Howard said Seven is committed to enacting change after a number of incidents that have occurred in recent months.

“We’ve taken specific action to address our… shortcomings. We’ve made some fundamental changes to our teams and the ways we work,” he said.

“Unfortunately, there are some historic matters that are still playing out and we will manage those appropriately. We hold ourselves to account and we expect our peers to do the same.”
