Seven’s Downton Abbey sinks to all-time low as ABC’s The Checkout grows audience

Downton AbbeySeven’s Downton Abbey on Seven at 9pm has sunk to an all-time low of 635,000 metro viewers, after claiming an audience of 723,000 viewers last week.

It was out-rated by Nine’s The Footy Show, airing from 8.40pm, which grabbed an audience of 696,000 after 674,000 metro viewers tuned in last week. The Footy Show was the most-watched show across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

While Downton’s audience has not taken to its Thursday night time slot is has not deserted the show completely, with time-shifted numbers showing last week’s episode was watched by an extra 261,000 viewers to take its total audience to 984,000.

Nine won the night with an audience share of 20.7 per cent as Seven claimed a share of 19.4 per cent. Ten grabbed third place with a share of 13 per cent just ahead of the ABC’s share of 12.9 per cent

However, when the secondary channels are accounted for Seven won with a total audience share of 28.6 per cent, ahead of Nine’s total audience share of 28 per cent.

Meanwhile, on the ABC The Checkout claimed its highest audience audience for this season, pulling a metro audience of 731,000 at 8pm after 696,000 viewers tuned in last week.

The premiere of the season grabbed an audience of 727,000 before sliding to 603,000 on its second outing.

It out-rated Seven’s My Ireland with Colin which was watched by 717,000.

In the 7.30pm timeslot, the ABC’s 7.30 was watched by 699,000, beating Nine’s Top Gear which had an audience of 677,000. Both shows out-rated Ten’s Modern Family which grabbed an audience of 496,000.

Nine News was the most watched show of the evening, claiming an audience of 1.079m, dropping to 991,000 at 6.30pm. Seven News was watched by 980,000 metro viewers, dipping to 894,000 at 7.30pm.

In the battle for breakfast Seven once again pipped Nine with Sunrise grabbing 315,000, just 19,000 ahead of Today’s 296,000.
