Short Term Girlfriend, a business to connect freelancers with understaffed agencies, launches

Samantha Simpson, founder of production company Sam I Am, has launched a freelance production business Short Term Girlfriend (STGF).

SGTF’s proposition is to connect freelance production professionals with clients and agencies to fulfil traditional agency roles that have disappeared through cutbacks and changes to the agency model. Simpson also intends for it to service agencies that have had to scale back due to COVID-19.

The STGF team James Fisher, Rich Cole, Anna Morwenna, Sirin Thongudomporn and founder Samantha Simpson.

Simpson explained: “Often the traditional producer or art buyer role no longer exists, or creative and account service teams are taking on lead producer roles. Agencies – including creative agencies, design studios, marketing and PR agencies – are busy, and at peak times, overextended.

“Over the years, we’ve also noticed that commercial artists – including directors, photographers, illustrators and animators – are often overloaded on projects, and can benefit from the services of an experienced short-term producer to help with a myriad of tasks, including building creative teams, scheduling and budgeting.

“STGF offers the services of multi-functional producers who can step in to manage projects – when they need them, and not when they don’t,” she said.

STGF producers can be hired to take on a whole project to completion, or just the production stage. The involvement of the producers can be tailored to the agency’s specific needs, including whether they work in-house or externally.

STGF producers’ skills cover art buying, print, broadcast, digital, animation, illustration.
