Shorts Minnie Loves Junior and Lilly win at Berlin
The short film Minnie Loves Junior, co-written and directed by brothers Andy and Matt Mullins, has won the Jury Special Mention in the Generation Kplus section at the Berlin International Film Festival, while Kasimir Burgess’ Lily won the Crystal Bear for Best Short.
“Berlin has been a brilliant experience. Our film has been enthusiastically received and we’ve had the opportunity to meet and be inspired by so many other filmmakers from around the world. We’re looking forward to returning with our first feature film,” said Matt Mullins.
The Jury said about Minnie Loves Junior, “True love doesn’t need words, at least not that many. That is what this touching story about two children on the beach in Australia has shown us. A small girl falls in love with a dreamy beachcomber who doesn’t at first return her love but then literally takes a dive.”
And about Lily, the Jury said: “We really love this film because of the touching and beautiful way in which a young girl looks after her ill father. This and the wonderful camera work created for us an unforgettable cinematic experience.”

Wyntah is my daughter who played Minnie and her big sister Marcia played her double. And Junior is my grandson and his big brother Aziel played his double. The four children did a great job in bringing this small short film alive. I was surprised how real the movie came to life and how the children brought the storyline of a picture board to life also. I enjoyed the film and so did the family and community of Port Augusta who are very proud of you children.
Marcia and Wyntah I am very proud of you girls you’s are very special and you make me proud to have two very special and beautiful daughters. You both have the opportunity to achieve all that you girls want in life and dont you’s ever forget that.
Andy and Matt you guys did a great job. The film is loved in Port Augusta not only by family but also the community. Everybody who saw the movie wanted to see more. Everyone is asking when does part two coming out and wanna know if there is gonna be a part two.
Marcia and Aziel yous done a great job backing up the little ones.
When my nephew saw the film he cried for minnie (Wyntah) because she was upset on the film.
Everyone who was involved in making the movie pat on the back. The journey was long and hard but it was rewarding in the end. Andy and Matt “CONGRATULATIONS” on all the awards and recognition of such a great and wonderful short film.
