Showcase wins ASTRA Award Channel of the Year for US dramas

Foxtel drama channel Showcase was named channel of the year at the 2014 ASTRA Awards last night with US drama series such as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and House of Cards cementing the channel’s success.

Drama categories of the year were won by FX for The Walking Dead, and UKTV for the acclaimed miniseries Top of The Lake co-produced by UKTV in Australia.

Women’s prison drama Wentworth won most outstanding Australian drama and the show’s Nicole Di Silva was presented the award for most outstanding performance.

Fox Sports won the innovation award for its Ref Cam, and sportscaster Kelli Underwood, of Back Page Live and ANZ Championship, was named most outstanding new talent.

More award shows… I mean really!

I happened to be watching paytv last night as the winners were announced throughout the viewing period. Perhaps the Aussie girls should lay off on the:

spray tan
botox
make up

It looked more like an episode of The Only Way is Essex
