Significant Seven: Best companies to work for

Over the next few days, we are publishing highlights from this year’s Mumbrella Annual.

1. Telstra
Telstra’s journey towards becoming a company that cares about its customers, and the huge rebranding effort that has followed, has made it the most exciting place for marketers to work, according to recruiter Hourigan International. New CMO Mark Buckman has added to the appeal.

2. Google
Google has the world’s biggest brains working on the cutting edge of how advertising is changing, and has a strong creative culture. Keeps its staff interested in zany ways.

3. NAB
NAB’s marketing department, under CMO Sandra de Castro, has proven they can break through to the very top corporate levels and have the whole company understand and execute against the marketing strategy. Never has it been sexier to work for a bank.

4. The Monkeys
Though the creative agency has a reputation for being a bit of a sweat shop, this is hardly surprising given how quickly the agency has grown. Every grad wants to work at the place deemed cool and an agency of the future.

5. Mango PR
DDB’s “hot little sister” has a distinct culture of its own.
Entrepreneurial with a boutique feel, the agency’s ambitions to be a pioneer in PR and experiential has helped achieve a staff retention rate of 85%, with none defecting to rivals. Does meditation classes.

6. Carlton United Brewers
What red-blooded Aussie male doesn’t want to work on beer? A company that is putting more resources into marketing at a time when others are cutting back is a big lover of the big idea.

7. Ikon
The media agency has its sights set on being the best employer in Australia by 2014 and is admired for its culture. Each member of staff gets 75 hours of training a year and a personal development plan which is reviewed every six months.
