March 23, 2011 –

SKY NEWS political reporter, Ashleigh Gillon, has been presented with the prestigious National Press Club’s Wallace Brown Award by Foreign Affairs Minister, Kevin Rudd, at a function held in Canberra this morning.

The Wallace Brown Award recognises outstanding young journalists who, in their first years of working in the Australian National Press Gallery, excel in fair reporting. It is the only journalism prize which recognises the contribution made by younger members of the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery.

SKY NEWS Chief Executive, Angelos Frangopoulos, said: “We’re all very proud that Ashleigh has been recognised with this prestigious Award and we’re privileged to have her part of our national affairs team.”

“She is great example of the quality journalism and professionalism to come from subscription television and SKY NEWS.”

Gillon’s name will now be permanently displayed at the National Press Club in Canberra.

SKY NEWS Political Editor, David Speers said: “Ashleigh is an extremely thorough journalist and sharp interviewer. Nothing gets past her. She’s carved out a strong reputation in the political scene and it’s wonderful to see her skills and achievements recognised with this Award.”

Gillon will be part of the SKY NEWS un-rivalled coverage of the New South Wales State Election, this Saturday, March 26.
