What do you do when your guest won’t stop talking?
Dr Mumbo has been delighted to see that Sky News has been doing its bit to keep talking the property bubble ever higher.
And it now includes handing over the Sky Business channel for six hours of real estate coverage every Saturday.
Cyncics might feel it could be a struggle to fill the airtime.
They’d be wrong. Which makes it all the trickier when a guest goes rogue and Just. Won’t. Shut. Up.
Like Jeff Patchell, managing director of Build. If he was going to give up his Saturday, he was going to have his say, goddamit.
Getting increasingly exasperated, presenter Prue Miller tried a couple of times to wind him up, perhaps not realising that she was on screen too, and viewers could see her gestures.
But, like a contestant on the BBC radio show Just A Minute, Jeff was going to keep on talking without hesitation, repetition or deviation. And talking. And talking.
In the end, co-presenter Bridie Barry had to step in, leaving viewers with a final vision of Jeff’s lips still moving, but his microphone turned off.
In fairness, Dr Mumbo suspects that Jeff was in a remote studio and perhaps his earpiece had slipped out. But it was a lot of fun for viewers nonetheless.
Just as bad as two Ch7 mid-morning hosts who talked over a guest while doing an overseas hookup. Too bad his interesting story got in the way of their banal commentary.
