Sky News to offer members-only content on website, launches new Foxtel channels
Sky News has revealed a number of changes to its news service and digital offering, including a rebrand of Australia’s Public Affairs Channel, A-PAC and members-only content on its digital platform, SkyNews.com.au.
Skynews.com.au will now feature exclusive members-only content for those who register, three digital video news streams and a new radio platform. It comes as Sky News transitions all multi-view services to its website.
SkyNews.com.au will now house Sky News Extra 1, Sky News Extra 2 and Sky News Extra 3, featuring breaking news, press conferences, events and programming live.
At the same time, the News Corp-owned broadcaster will rebrand Australia’s Public Affairs Channel, A-PAC to Sky News Extra and launch Sky News UK on the service, running on channel 605. Both channels will run from May 27.
Sky News UK will offer 24 hours of news based in the UK, as well as analysis and commentary from the Sky News UK team. It has been on Foxtel since 2004 as a small screen behind the interactive red button option.
Meanwhile, Sky News Extra will feature every session of Federal Parliament, along with coverage from state and territory parliaments. It will also broadcast key speeches, press conferences and breaking political news.
Both will be available though the Foxtel app.
Angelos Frangopoulos, CEO Australian News Channel, said Sky News Australia had slowly grown to become an important part of Australian journalism, with the new announcements reinforcing this.
“Today’s announcements further solidify our commitment and investment in delivering Australians premium journalism and incisive commentary that informs on the vital issues shaping our nation and the world,” Frangopoulos said.
The latest announcements come six months after Sky News Business unveiled its 2018 plans, which included moving the broadcaster into News Corp HQ. In late December, the broadcaster got caught in negotiations about its carriage fees, after News Corp and Telstra couldn’t agree on a new deal. It was resolved in January.
News Corp acquired the parent company of Sky News Australia, Australian News Channel in 2016.

Why does “deckchairs” and “shuffling” come to mind? Still kind of Foxtel/News to realise that SkyNewsUK is away ahead of anything they make here and we deserve to see it full-screen

Paying for top coverage on Foxtel I am very disappointed with the changes Foxtel has made to it’s news coverage, causing me to reconsider my membership to Foxtel.

Not good… Used to watch the banking royal commission on multiview… Not the best video but now nothing. Less news… Maybe it’s time to click the Fox.

Full screen for UK News long overdue so very welcome. An improvement would be for headlines running along base of picture to be in larger letters, cannot read them. There is a large empty space below for them. Also I am an English speaker but the headlines running along the screen are gone before I have completed reading them, so how do others with English their second language cope? Looking for improvement please. C.Hammond (Melbourne)
