Sony confirms Red Hill acquisition

Sony Pictures has confirmed it will distribute Patrick Hughes’ Red Hill, with an October 28 release planned for Australia.

The film  was originally due for release by Transmission Films; MD Andrew Mackie refused to comment on the situation but told Encore that “Red Hill is fantastic – definitely worth catching up with if you can.”

“We are thrilled to be releasing Patrick Hughes’ first feature film,” said Sony Pictures Australia M Stephen Basil-Jones in a press release.

“As an independent film-maker this is truly a dream come true; Red Hill was a passion project for all involved and I am thrilled to have Sony now releasing the movie in Australia. Stephen and his team were immediate in their enthusiasm and confidence in the film and I can think of no better home,” added Hughes.

The film will have its Australian premiere at the Sydney Film Festival on June 4. It will also participate in the Shanghai (June 12-20), Edinburgh (June 16-27) and Karlovy Vary (Jul 2-13) festivals.
