Southern Cross Austereo launches new digital radio station, Triple M Country
Southern Cross Austereo has added a new country-themed digital music station to its offering.
Triple M Country – a station featuring contemporary music by Australian and international country artists – will launch at midnight on February 1.
It adds to Triple M’s stable of digital radio stations, including Classic Rock, Modern and Greatest Hits.
Classic Rock was revived in July last year.
The new station will have its own music show hosted by music Lee Kernaghan, ‘The Range’, which will run from 6am to 8am on Sundays. It will also air across Triple M’s regional network and syndicated stations.
Other shows include ‘Nashville Access’ a weekly show which looks at America country music, and ‘Hot Country Saturday Night’.
Triple M Country will also partner with the Country Rocks Sydney Festival, which will be held on March 3.
Guy Dobson, SCA’s chief creative officer, said the new brand extension of Triple M would offer more solutions for clients and increase audience reach.
“Research around the world shows country music lovers discover music via broadcast radio,” Dobson said.
“The launch of the Triple M Country signals the continued growth and diversification of the Triple M brand across Australia.”
Triple M Country will be available on digital radio in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane or through the Triple M app.
When is one of the networks going to launch a digital station that is completely different? There’s already a country station on digital. Add to that all of the old school and easy listening stations – it’s uninspiring.
Time for one of the networks to risk getting some new listeners by doing something different.

There were already two country stations on digital. This is one of those (in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide). The Range is now Triple M Country. There remains ABC Country everywhere, and Kix Country in Perth, Canberra and Darwin. There used to be The Buckle in all the major capitals as well.
I imagine people who like country music would say that all of them are special in their own way.
I dare say you could define genres that you would prefer to hear that there isn’t currently a station for. That is why there is Spotify and other options. But be sure to try Double J if you haven’t already.
