Speed raids UM to find new national head of strategy

Independent media agency Speed has nabbed UM’s Rachel Teh as its new national head of strategy.

Teh joins the agency after nearly 7 years with UM, where she was most recently head of strategy, Melbourne.

Ian Perrin, managing partner at Speed, said Teh is the “perfect person” for the team.

“At the core of our agency is a belief in the integration of data and strategy to solve media problems. It is therefore imperative that we have the very best strategy leadership, and Rachel is world class,” he said.

“Not only is she both analytical and innovative, but also has a long track record of working closely with creative agencies. She is therefore the perfect person to lead us forwards.”

Teh said the indie media agency space is “on fire at the moment”, as agencies produce solutions that challenge the status quo of holding groups.

“I was intrigued by the Speed approach and I’m a huge advocate for using data and analytics to supercharge strategic solutions,” she said.

“Clients are increasingly looking for ways to justify their marketing spends through business results – providing real insights backed by analytics is one way to do that.

“I am excited to grow and contribute to the amazing success the team have accomplished in the last year,” Teh concluded.

Teh’s appointment comes after the agency’s strong start to the year, picking up media duties for HR and payroll software provider, Elmo and skincare clinic Clear Skincare. Other recent wins include Colonial First StateCarnival Cruise LinesArchie Rose, Boody and additional projects across Dulux Group.

Perrin will feature at next week’s Mumbrella360 where he and Thinkerbell’s Adam Ferrier will go head-to-head against networks and in-house representatives in the ultimate debate: Who can serve a brand best – indies, networks or in-house teams?
