Spider-Man: Far From Home takes $10m across first weekend box office

Spider-Man: Far From Home, a Marvel Studios and Columbia Pictures film distributed by Sony Pictures, has taken $10.44m across 731 screens in its first weekend at the box office.

The film, which was released July 1, has a running total of $17.41m.

Far From Home was directed by Jon Watts, who also directed the previous Spider-Man: Homecoming. It stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man, a role he has held since his 2016 appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Toy Story 4 held onto the second spot with a taking of $5.28m across 495 screens, adding to a running total of $24.80m at the Australian box office.

Beatles-focused comedy Yesterday took the third spot. The film, distributed by Universal, brought in $2.32m across 278 screens to add to a running total of $6.92m.

Universal also had the fourth spot with The Secret Life of Pets 2 which took $1.90m for its third week out. The top five was rounded out with horror film Annabelle Comes Home, in its second week on screens, which took $1.16m.

The two other films having their debut which made the top 10 were After, which took seventh spot with $856,285 across 172 screens, and Mystify Michael Hutchence with $368,642 which landed it in 10th position.

After is a romantic drama based on the series of novels by the same name written by Anna Todd, and Mystify Michael Hutchence tells the story of the life of the late singer, using archive footage and home movies.

Aladdin, Rocketman and Men In Black: International all managed to hold onto top 10 spots after seven, six and four weeks in the box office respectively. Aladdin has a running total of $31.89m.
