‘Sport is part of our DNA’: Free sports comes to Hubbl with Kayo Freebies

Hubbl will be adding thousands of hours of free sport to the new streaming platform, with the introduction of Kayo Freebies.

Hubbl users will not need a Kayo login to view the free content, which includes Super Netball games, NBL games, including the NBL Finals and all NBL1 games, all Formula 1 and MotoGP practice and qualifier races, select Supercars races, all races and events for Sail GP and America’s Cup, and the World Surf League.

Speaking to Mumbrella this week, Les Wigan, managing director of Hubbl, said of the new offering: “You literally just have to have a registered Hubbl device, and on you go and you can access the live content, the replays, the bites, the minis, and there’s some pretty cool content on there.

“For us it’s just a way to lift some lower tier content up, and give consumers good sport in a nice environment.”

Kayo Freebies content will be available to stream directly from the Hubbl home page from Thursday, as well as from the dedicated sports page.

Wigan was part of the creation of Kayo, and saw how there were able to use the tier one sports — although Wigan is loathe to use that term — to turn people onto lesser known sports. It’s a strategy they’ll adopt with Hubbl, too.

“I guess the slight nuance with Hubbl is that we’ll be able to do that with sports across different providers,” Wigan explains, “so we’ve got more apps launching — we’ve already got the free-to-air sport on there, that we put side-by-side with the launch of Stan, coming later this year, Paramount+, with the A-League and rugby and other sports that they have, and then obviously with Optus as well, we’ll be able to serve that content alongside Kayo and other sports that are running on there.

“I think, for the first time in a long time, consumers in Australia will be able to get all of their sport in one place – not having to go in and out of apps like you have to now.”

Julian Ogrin, managing director of Kayo Sports, said in a press release announcing Kayo Freebies: “Sport is part of our DNA and we know how much Australians love it.”

“Several years ago Kayo made a commitment to offer free sport to the Australian public.

“Kayo makes it effortless to get access to that sport and we are thrilled to be able to use the Hubbl technology to take that further – whether its live, replays or minis, there are 35+ free sports available to stream on the platform.”
