Sports marketing veteran joins Wasserman’s local push
Global sports, music, and entertainment company Wasserman has appointed sports marketing veteran Peter Jarmain as vice president, leading its live event and experiential division.
While the company has working in Australia and New Zealand since 2006, Jarmain’s appointment aims to strengthen Wasserman’s presence in the local markets. It forms part of Wasserman’s broader strategy to expand its offering, including women-focused, global impact and advisory business, The Collective.
Taking the helm at Wasserman Live, Jarmain will be responsible for live event production, experiential operations, custom fabrication, and branding and signage across the Australian and APAC markets.
He brings over 20 years of experience to the role. He’s previously held positions including general manager of marketing at Football Australia, head of sports marketing and sponsorship at Foxtel, and head of marketing and brand at the National Rugby League.
“It’s an honour to become part of a global sport, music and entertainment heavyweight such as Wasserman, and what a time to join the business,” he said in a media release on Tuesday.
“Over the next decade, Australia will be the go-to destination for the world’s most prestigious sporting events, and I am excited to see how we can ensure Wasserman is at the very centre of it all.”
Alastair Bewick, group managing director of Wasserman Live, said in the media release: “As we approach an unforgettable decade of sport in Australia and New Zealand, we are delighted to have brought Peter on board to help capitalise on the opportunity that lies ahead.
“Peter has an in-depth understanding of the region’s sporting landscape and leaning on his expertise, we are looking forward to a period of sustained growth in market for both Wasserman Live and the Wasserman business at large.”
Wasserman’s local clients include Football Australia, Golf Australia, Unilever and Hyrox. It has worked with Rugby Australia and the British and Irish Lions for the past three years, managing commercial aspects of this year’s Lions Tour, and recently activated for several brands at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
It also represents a roster of musicians and athletes from across Australia and New Zealand, including DJ Dom Dolla, NRL player Reece Walsh, Australian singer Sia, and NZ rugby sevens player Michaela Brake.
