Stan Originals and Screen Australia’s Bad Behaviour to premiere next month

Stan’s new series Bad Behaviour, which had investment from Screen Australia and was developed and produced with support from VicScreen, will be premiering on 17 February.

The series is produced by Matchbox Pictures, a part of Universal International Studios and will be streamed exclusively on Nine-owned Stan.

The locally-owned streaming platform first flagged the series in late 2021 as part of what it called an  “ongoing commitment to deliver more world-class, locally produced original films and series”.

Internationally, it will premiere at the 2023 Berlinale Series, the Berlin Film Festival’s television showcase.

Bad Behaviour tells a story of 25-year-old Jo Mackenzie bumping into her old school friend Alice Kang. Memories of the year they spent together at Silver Creek – the campus of an exclusive boarding school – come flooding back.

Led by an all-female creative team, the Stan Original Series is written by Pip Karmel (Total Control, New Gold Mountain) and Magda Wozniak (The Messenger, While The Men Are Away), produced by Amanda Higgs (The Secret Life of Us, Barracuda), and directed by Corrie Chen (New Gold Mountain, Homecoming Queens).

The series is led by Jana McKinnon (We Children from Bahnhof Zoo), alongside Markella Kavenagh (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the Stan Original Series The Gloaming), and Yerin Ha (Halo).

Subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) providers such as Stan have spent $335.1 million on Australian programs in the 2021-22 financial year according to Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

Nine Entertainment results saw subscription streaming service Stan grow its revenue by 22% in FY2022, however rising costs for the business meant that EBITDA growth took a backward turn compared to the previous year. Stan is understood to have above 2.5 million paid subscribers.
