The Star Sydney turns focus to restaurants and retail with new marketing role

Sydney’s casino, dining and entertainment precinct The Star is ramping up its focus on marketing its restaurants, bars and B2B offering with the appointment of restaurant specialist Jo Bennett as marketing director for leisure and entertainment.

Bennett joins The Star having previously held senior marketing roles with The Cru Media, Matt Moran’s restaurant group and Marco Pierre White.

Bennett’s role will also oversee marketing for the retail precinct.

Melinda Madigan, general manager marketing and entertainment at The Star – who Bennett will report in to – said the appointment signalled a new direction for the venue.

“She brings a new level of experience and an impressive track record of managing multiple projects and leading teams to achieve continuous, improved business performance for premium hospitality and tourism brands,” Madigan said.

“The Star will undoubtedly benefit from her extensive experience designing and delivering innovative marketing strategies and activation campaigns to drive brand advocacy, visitation, footfall, revenue and profit.”

Her appointment also comes as the venue undertakes a major redevelopment of its facilities.

Bennett said she hoped her background would allow her to further develop The Star’s offer .

“I have extensive professional experience and a deep personal interest in premium food and beverage, retail, accommodation and events and am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to such a profiled brand with a strong and expanding customer proposition,” Bennett said.

The marketer has spent the past 18 months at specialist agency Cru Media working with a range of clients including the City of Orange and Barrangaoo food emporium Bel & Brio.
