Star Wars and tech top Amazon’s first week of Australian trading

Technology products were the most popular purchases in Amazon’s first week of local trading, the online retailer has announced.

Eight of the top ten fell into the tech category, two of which were Star Wars-themed as fans prepare for today’s launch of The Last Jedi.

“It is not surprising to see video games featuring prominently in the top ten,” says Amazon Australia ceo, Rocco Braeuniger

The site’s top three best-selling items were Playstation 4 video games, with FIFA 18 topping the list, closely followed by Call of Duty: WW2 and Star Wars Battlefront II.

Books made up the rest of the list, with Australian author Scott Pape’s ‘The Barefoot Investor’ coming in at number seven and Jamie Oliver’s ‘5 Ingredients – Quick & Easy Food’ ranking as the eighth most popular item on the company’s website.

“In the run up to Christmas it is not surprising to see video games featuring prominently in the top ten,” said Rocco Braeuniger, country manager of Amazon Australia.

“Outside of the top ten, Australians have been buying everything from daily essentials, including nappies and socks, to bigger purchases such as wearable tech and cameras.”
