Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivers Australia’s second-biggest opening weekend of all time

Stars Wars: The Last Jedi has become one of the highest-performing films in Australian box office history, cracking more than $20m in its first weekend.

Running across 970 screens, it became the second-highest opening weekend for a film in Australian history, just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In 2015, Stars Wars: The Force Awakens took $27m on its first weekend.

According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia report, the film made $1.682m on its first weekend.
