Starcom faces fight to hold onto Sony media account

Media agency Starcom Mediavest is facing a fight to hang on to its Sony Computer Entertainment account in Australia after a pitch was called in several countries.

The account is a prestigious one for Starcom, which got onto the shortlist for best use of sponsorship at last year’s Cannes Lions for its local work on the Sony PSP, and has also previously won an Advertising Federation of Australia effectiveness award for the launch of the Sony game KillZone.

But the review also provides an opportunity for OMD, which already holds the account in several key markets outside of Australia. OMD boss Mark Coad told Mumbrella today that he was aware of the review. A spokesman for Starcom Sydney confirmed the agency was aware of the situation but was unable to comment further.
