Status Quo are back for Coles in new ‘Down, Down’ spot
Status Quo are back in the latest Coles retail spot spruiking garlic bread, with the 70s rock band sporting big red hand guitars with the supermarket adding its ‘every day’ focus to the ‘down, down’ focus.

Coles followed up the campaign with it’s ‘Everyday’ campaign in November which appeared to be a response to Woolworths’ ‘Cheap, Cheap’ tagline with the campaign focusing on everyday lower prices as opposed to short-term promotions.

Aussies will be singing “Down Down” 20 years from… just like I can sing C’mon On Aussie, tell you who Mrs Marsh was, and still use “Claytons” as a put down.
This is big branded advertising done right.

What are status quo (other than gross expense) adding to this? Seriously, remove them and you’re no worse off.

i don’t know what’s worse… the on-again-off-again use of status quo, or the 90s throw-back to “save everyday”… this brand has gone down hill BIG time… 2 reasons: the former merchandise director is now the MD and it’s all about “line and price” and secondly the former “ideas man” tony p is now the top dog at woolies…

Sam … I’ll add that the headline “Status Quo ARE back…” is pretty crook.

It may be crass, it may be ugly, but if it gets people through the door, it’s a winner.

@Tom Donald really good use of sarcasm there. They might be singing ‘Down , down pants are down, or perhaps ‘Down , down standards are down’ though.

I enjoy the ads and they are also gentlemen. Francis was on my Melbourne flight, jumped out of his seat to help me put hand luggage in overhead locker. And they were in cattle class with me!!

No. It’s done its job if it helps sell a football field’s worth of whatever it is that’s it pushing.
This isn’t a brand that suffers for lack of foot traffic. It’s how much $ they spend when they’re in the supermarket.
Most of the work is done in-store.
