Step Change Marketing to support Good Return

Step Change Marketing has teamed up with Australian charity Good Return’s  to provide support for its microfinance organisation in East Timor.

The announcement:

Every successful organisation knows that good marketing is critical to success. With this is mind, Step Change Marketing is teaming up with one of Australia’s most innovative charities Good Return to provide marketing support to their microfinance organisation in East Timor.

Marketing whiz, Siimon Reynolds acknowledged the importance of getting marketing right when he said at the recent The Entourage Unconvention: “The number one reason any venture fails is not enough customers… and yet most business owners spend only 11% of their time in the marketing and sales area. This is just as true for charities.”

Step Change Marketing’s General Manager, Jeff Cooper, will spend this Christmas in the field in East Timor with Good Return’s MFI partner. While he’s realistic about the challenge of working in a completely new market and language he believes Good Return deserves the support of all Australians.

“Microfinance is unique, it works out that with every dollar you lend it multiplies to over $6,” he said.

“They also educate the borrowers with business skills so they’re truly stopping the poverty cycle.”

Good Return CEO, Guy Winship, acknowledged the support of Step Change Marketing: “We’re very lucky to have a team of marketing professionals committed to changing the world with the gift of microfinance. When we heard that their commitment went as far as overseas travel it just made sense that our partners should feel the benefit of having top marketing assistance.”

Mr Cooper explained that marketing is a must for charities. “Charities are faced with the paradox of trying to spend as little money as possible, whilst getting as much support as possible,” he said.. Marketing is the key to acquiring more donors at a lower cost. Their operating in the same amount of marketing ‘noise’ as all the big brands, but in most cases without the big spend. It’s even more important for charities to have great marketing.”

You can do your bit by lending as little as $25 to an entrepreneur in poverty so they can start a business to support their family and community at: www.goodreturn.org.
