Steve Allen to lead Magazine Week

magazine_week_logoVeteran media commentator Steve Allen is to give the keynote speech at Publishers Australia’s first Magazine Week, which kicks off on November 7.

The week, which is also being backed by Magazine Publishers of Australia, features a publishing workshop spanning the week, a two day conference, and culminates in the Publishers Australia Excellence awards.

PA represents Australia’s smaller magazine companies, while the MPA, which has been mostly dormant for the last couple of years, represents the bigger players including Pacific Magazines and ACP Magazines.

As well as Allen, who gives the keynote on the Thursday morning, speakers at the conference include Marie Claire editor-in-chief Jackie Frank, NineMSN’s head of mobile audience Rebecca Haasma, ACP MD Phil Scott and Amanda Gome, CEO of Crikey publisher Private Media.

Publishers Australia chairman Geoff Hird said: “Magazine publishing is an evolving and vibrant industry that is focused towards our future. Magazine Week is an exciting new event on the media calendar that will see the best minds in our industry gather to share insights, talk trends and delve into real-life case studies.”

Magazine Publishers of Australia chairman Nick Chan said: “Magazine Week will showcase the significance of the magazine market.  “It will highlight the challenges and the opportunities across all platforms of publishing.”

Magazine Week takes place at  Darling Harbour in Sydney.
