Australian Streaming Service SkipiTV Launches esports show “The Podium”

Local Video On Demand service SkipiTV has revealed their newest show today, The Podium

The Podium will focus on the emerging world of competitive gaming across Australia and New Zealand, highlighting key match ups, events, Leagues and tournaments from the local region.

The show will be driven by hosts Beau Ushay, an Australian Video Games Industry veteran and Joab Gilroy, the most respected voice in competitive gaming having recently been crowned esports Journalist Of The Year at the 2018 Esports Pro Oceania Awards.

Filmed on location in SkipiTV’s Sydney studio at Fox Studios in Moore Park, the show is designed to examine one area of the broad, many layered world of esports rather than trying to be everything to everyone in an increasingly fractured landscape.

“We’ve been working on the concept of a pure esports focused show for a while now, from about the middle of last year. We dabbled with esports coverage during the course of That Gaming Show in 2017, but felt we were doing a disservice by spending too little time on a really vast and varied
sector of the gaming community,” said Beau Ushay.

SkipiTV Founder Bruce Dawson said the show was designed to service an area of the market currently being overlooked. “Everyone at the moment is trying to work out how to get in front of gamers and partner with this space. With esports really taking off in the last year or so, we wanted to create something which would be easy to consume, but well produced broadcast quality. We’re happy with the first episode and keen to see where it goes from here”

Ushay went on to say that the philosophy of SkipiTV and their approach to making content is what was so attractive about partnering on this project. “Bruce, Lawrence and the SkipiTV team have always been supportive of new ideas and we share the same vision for media production. The future of content is being able to produce high quality broadcast video but quickly and cheaply. It’s really refreshing to be able to explore ideas and draw on the expertise of their first-rate team.”

Dawson said there are no current commercial agreements around the show, but a number of conversations are ongoing. “We are still in the early days of this particular project but keen to get it out there and see how it does in market. We create enough bespoke work for other clients to keep the lights on, which allows us play around on the stuff we want to do. We’re speaking to a number of commercial and distribution partners about all of our shows, but always keen to see opportunities out there. We are just focused on producing the best stuff we can, keep testing and trying new ideas and see where it all goes.”

New episodes of The Podium can be seen every Wednesday on SkipiTV:
