Sun-Herald raises cover price to $2.80
Fairfax Media today raised the cover price of its Sunday Sydney newspaper the Sun-Herald by 30c to $2.80.
The latest rise sees the Sun-Herald now 40 per cent more expensive for readers than it was two year ago.
In the last set of audited sales numbers, the Sun-Herald had a circulation of 257,630, down 11.2 per cent on the same period a year ago.
The steep price rises in part reflect a change of strategy by Fairfax over the last couple of years to focus on growing cover price revenue rather than delivering high circulation numbers to advertisers.
Direct Sydney rival, the Sunday Telegraph, published by News Corp, circulates 510,259 copies, and currently has a cover price of $2.50.
I would not mind paying more if I was getting more, but the paper keeps offering less and less.

40% increase in 2 years for less? Which economics 101 class did they attend or wag?

Almost spot on, Ann – I was thinking the same thing. But you forgot one important ingredient: that 40% increase in 2 years was for 11.2% less (after just one year!).
I must admit I haven’t bought a Sun Herald for probably 10 years – like the other fairfloss media, it’s so far up itself nothing else will fit.
