Sunrise joins the app rush
Seven’s Sunrise is aiming to become the first Australian TV show with its own series of apps in what show boss Adam Boland describes as an attempt to turn it into a 24/7 brand.
They apps – for Apple’s iPad and iPhone, and the Google Android operating system – are due for launch on October 1.
As well as offering the ability to search Sunrise’s video archive by day or by timeslot, the apps will contain information and links about the presenters and allow viewers to talk to other viewers. Boland, Seven’s director of morning television, said:
“This is about making Sunrise a truly 24/7 brand. We need to be everywhere and media companies which don’t get that simply won’t be competitive. It’s a basic demand and supply argument.”
Seven will also start live streaming Sunrise online in the next few days. Both the apps and the streaming will be free.
Great stuff! TV gets social across three-screens. Android apps on Google TV here we come!

What about the Poh’s Kitchen, the Chaser or those other ABC Apps…. Seven can’t be the first when others are already there…

It doesn’t say Seven were the first to release an app for a TV show. It says: “first Australian TV show with its own series of apps” – IE platform agnostic –
“The apps – for Apple’s iPad and iPhone, and the Google Android operating system – are due for launch on October 1. ”
Actually it says “They apps”, which may be some sort of urban app lingo I’m not hip enough to get. 🙂
