Superfast UK broadband to leave Australia for dust
UK media is facing a game changing broadband move after Virgin announced the launch of a superfast service. The high speed connection – priced at the equivalent of around $120 per month – would allow for instantaneous viewing of films and TV programmes in high definition. As a result it will accelerate the converage of online and broadcast television in the country.
Virgin claims it will be able to offer data speeds of up to 50Mbps, (or 50 x 1,000,000 bits per second). By contrast, the current average broadband speed in Australia is just 4.4Mbps. Even the controversial new broadband network for Australia would only deliver average speeds of about 12 Mbps.
Ha… Approach Virgin broadband at your own peril. I signed up for their wireless broadband last year and the service is truly appalling.

This is full on. And shows how painfully far behind Australia is (and shouldn’t be) thanks to some dubious antics by certain players in the media / telco sector who stand to lose an awful lot when the damn finally breaks.
