Surfrider: oceans aren’t the only ones in danger
A series of print ads, created by Leo Burnett Sydney for Surfrider, introduces the idea that surfers are as much under threat from litter, pollution and oil spills as wildlife. The ads appeared in Surfing World, Australian Longboarder, Curl Magazine, NZ Surfing and on posters at Bells Surf Comp.
Mumbrella was originally informed that media buying was done directly by the agency, but later told Surfrider booked the ads themselves.
The ads, which carry the tagline “Our oceans aren’t the only ones in danger”, aim to drive traffic to the website surfrider.org.au.
The third execution, ‘plastic’:

Scam-rider would be a more accurate name for this.
But the important thing is…did it make it in time for the Cannes deadline?
Anonymous – wow you have some balls don’t you.
where are the surfboards?
Yep – Scam-rider
Great ads, great cause. Saw these in Surfing World and really got me thinking. Well done.
Glad you like the ad, Seek.
Shame you had to spend money buying Surfing World. Based on your IP address, you could just have asked one of your colleageus to show you.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Tim – hahahahaha! that’s brilliant!
Love ’em.
I don’t care if they’re scam or not.
It’s a bloody important and terribly unknown, under-reported issue.
