Sweden vs England World Cup match draws 528,000 metro viewers for SBS
Despite a midnight kickoff, the SBS’ showing of the Sweden vs England World Cup match brought in 528,000 viewers for SBS in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The match also came top in key advertising demographics 25-54, 16-39, 18-49, according to OzTam’s overnight viewing figures.
However the World Cup was unable to knock Seven News off the top spot for the most-watched program of the evening, with 925,000 metro viewers.
Nine news came a close second, with 807,000 metro viewers. ABC’s most-watched program was also its news show, with 653,000 metro viewers.
Seven’s AFL match also helped pull a larger percentage of the audience across Seven and 7mate, with 391,000 metro viewers, 211,000 of which came from Melbourne.
Seven and Nine aired competing films in the 7pm time slot, with Nine’s showing of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 beating Seven’s Finding Dory 423,000 to 360,000.
Finding Dory aired on Seven’s main channel in the cities the AFL wasn’t.
The World Cup match wasn’t quite enough to boost SBS into double figures for its main channel share, but it came close, with 9.3%.
It was enough to beat Ten’s main channel share, which reached 6.1%. Ten’s most-watched program of the night was Ambulance, with 256,000 metro viewers.
Nine’s main channel achieved a 15.7% share, while Seven pulled in 22.5% of the audience. ABC achieved 11.3%.
