Swinburne appoints ANZ’s head of marketing, Carolyn Bendall, as CMO

Carolyn Bendall has joined Swinburne University of Technology as chief marketing officer after 20 years with ANZ, most recently as the bank’s Australian head of marketing.

Starting on 17 March, Bendall replaces Sarah Graham, who left the post in August after five years.

Bendall joins from ANZ, where she worked for 20 years

“Ms Bendall is a visionary thinker with expertise in helping big brands stand out from the crowd,” said vice president of students and alumni, Dr Andrew J Smith.

“Swinburne provides a five-star student experience. Our people are game changers, enabled by a culture of ambition, adventure and achievement. We look forward to Ms Bendall bringing bold and refreshing ideas as we continue to grow our brand.”

Deputy director of marketing, Amy Whitehead, has been acting as director of marketing following Graham’s exit.

“I am a passionate believer in the life-changing power of education, and the higher education sector is such a diverse and interesting business, especially when looked at through the lens of pace of transformation, intensity of competition and significance to the overall Australian economy,” Bendall said of her new role.

“Swinburne was a stand out for me – a leader in diversity and inclusion, committed to evolving the student experience at all touchpoints, and delivering social and economic impact across the board.”

Before Graham’s departure, in July last year, the university revealed a brand refresh. And last May, the university appointed media agency Initiative to its advertising account.
