Sydneysiders turn away from State Of Origin while Gruen makes a solid return
New South Wales’ pounding in State Of Origin last night was a turn-off for Sydneysiders , overnight metro TV ratings from OzTam suggest.
Whereas Origin 1 saw an overnight Sydney audience of 1,179,000, that declined to 946,000 for Wednesday night’s second bout, according to OzTam’s figures.
However, despite the one-sided nature of the contest – which Queensland won 34-6 – Brisbanites were still happy to tune in. The Brisbane audience rose from 824,000 in Origin 1 to 849,000 for Origin 2.
Overall, metro ratings for the game were just under 2.2m, compared to 2.5m for the first game.
Meanwhile, the return of The Gruen Transfer on ABC1 attracted an average of nearly 1.2m – seventh for the night. Despite the opposition from State Of Origin, the number was higher than the debut of series 2 of Gruen which was 1.1m, but a little behind its first series debut of 1.3m.
The Gruen Transfer was particularly popular in younger demographics, fourth for the night in 16-39 and 18-49.
The show, hosted by Wil Anderson, features GPY&R’s Russel Howcroft and Leo Burnett’s Todd Sampson deconstructing adland for the public.
