Sydney Fringe Festival 2024 to host ‘new live audio documentary show’

Documentary maker Mike Williams is set to appear at the Sydney Fringe Festival 2024 to perform “a new live audio documentary show titled, Wide World of Marrackville”.

The announcement:

Sydney-based audio documentary maker, Mike Williams has announced he will perform a new live audio documentary show titled, Wide World of Marrickville at Sydney Fringe Festival 2024.

Audiences will be surprised and delighted by the true stories behind some of Marrickvilles’s iconic characters and locations. The suburb has one of Sydney’s richest cultural histories and it’s fitting that the story be shared in a totally unique and innovative mixed media performance. The show will feature live narration, music, and voices of the community tightly packaged in Mike’s trademark irreverent style.

Mike said he’s excited to be premiering the live documentary at Sydney Fringe: “Performing audio documentaries live has evolved a lot since my first show in 2016, when we brought a live goat on stage. These days there are fewer goats, but it’s always spontaneous.

“Listening to docos is mostly done by yourself, in your earbuds, so any opportunity for communal listening is very special.”

This is Mike’s biggest run of live shows in Sydney and his first since 2022’s ‘Who Gives A Fork?’ world tour, which ended up on BBC Radio 4 and the front page of the Wall Street Journal.

Wide World of Marrickville will headline the first week of Emerging Artist Share House at Erskineville Town Hall from September 3-7.

Tickets start at $18 and are available directly from the Sydney Fringe website.
