Sydney radio ratings: Ray Hadley claims a 19-year winning streak in mornings

Radio veteran and 2GB host Ray Hadley has posted his 150th consecutive ratings win in Sydney’s morning slot, while the Nine Radio station also reclaimed its overall share crown from KIIS FM.

Hadley’s morning show scored a 17% share and was the biggest upward mover in the slot, up 1.5 points. He was followed by KIIS FM (13.6%), whose morning hosts consist of Kyle Sandilands, Jackie O Henderson and Gordie Waters.

The renewal will see Hadley commentate at the 2024 Paris Olympics and claim his 100th State of Origin call in 2025

Hadley’s streak started in 2004, two years after he moved to 2GB’s morning slot in 2002. In May this year, Nine Radio extended Hadley’s contract, which will see him remain on air at 2GB until the end of 2026.

Commenting on the impressive score sheet, Hadley said: “In the greater scheme of things, it’s not the most important story I’ll deal with today but it’s gratifying and means I’ve been number one since mid-2004. Let’s hope for 151.”

2GB’s breakfast host, Ben Fordham, also congratulated his colleague: “The real story today is Ray Hadley notching up 150 ratings wins in a row. It’s unprecedented and extraordinary.

“When we’ve faced some pressure in breakfast, Ray has been a sensational support and encouraged us not to lose focus and just keep doing what we’re doing. We’re very lucky to have him steering the ship at 2GB.”

In overall people, as mentioned, 2GB (14.3%) regained the top spot that was snatched by KIIS FM (12%) when the latter posted the highest share on record last survey. 2GB was up 2.1 points and KIIS FM was down one point.

Ben Fordham was back on top with an 18.1% breakfast share, up 3.1 points. Meanwhile, amid rumours of them swirling back to old network SCA, Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM scored 17.1% in breakfast, down 0.9 points.

ARN’s breakfast duo Jonesy and Amanda on WSFM was down 0.3 points further after the last survey’s loss.

2GB’s new drive host Chris O’Keefe was the biggest upward mover in the slot (8.6%, up 1.4 points), while KIIS FM’s Will and Woody lost the most share this time round (11.6%, down 1.9 points).

This survey marks the second outing of a revamped ratings model, which includes detailed streaming numbers. The figures are included in overall results, but the breakout gives a river insight into how networks are faring in the digital stakes.
