Creative Agency, The Taboo Group, launches SUPAFISH; a floating restaurant and bar on Melbourne’s Yarra River

11th December – Just in time for Summer, independent marketing agency The Taboo Group, have launched their own floating restaurant and bar on Melbourne’s iconic Yarra river.

Designed and executed by the creative agency in partnership with Aussie ex-pat and restauranteur Grant Smillie, Supafish draws on virtues championed by Taboo – unexpected thinking and cutting edge design – to create a world-class hospitality experience in the agency’s hometown of Melbourne.

The 300sq/m bar will be located on Southbank and offer both tourists and locals a rare hospitality experience in the heart of Melbourne. Taboo have bought together an alliance of clients and partners to help deliver the experience including Corona, Bonamy’s Cider, The Bucha of Byron (kombucha) and Treasury Wine Estate, with the kitchen being run by Collingwood’s Mexican diner – Hotel Jesus.

Founder and Managing Director of The Taboo Group, Andrew Mackinnon, says the agency’s hospitality venture comes off the back of years creating brand experiences with their high-profile clients including CUB, Nike, Haagen-Dazs, TAC, nab, Schweppes and MECCA.

“We decided it was time to put our money where our mouth is and do something for ourselves”, Mackinnon commented. “Supafish is the embodiment of everything we stand for – doing things that are unexpected, creating cultural value and getting people talking. It’s how we approach business, whether creating something for ourselves or our clients.

Supafish’s unique hospitality proposition and innovative design will be a first for Melbourne, already capturing the attention of both a local and international audience.

Says agency co-owner James Mackinnon “As an agency we strive to maintain an entrepreneurial spirit and always stay connected to culture. Many of our team have side-projects outside of advertising and we encourage that because it gives us greater perspective and breadth. We believe the best advice we can give our clients comes from first- hand business experience, not ivory towers”.

Supafish will be open from December 1st for a period of three months. Located in the Southbank precinct, the floating restaurant’s menu is designed around the drinks offering, drawing inspiration from the city and sea.
