Tajer made global CEO of IPG Mediabrands
IPG Mediabrands’ Australian boss Henry Tajer has been promoted to the role of global CEO of the media agency network and will move to New York later in the year.
Tajer, who is already already the company’s global chief operating officer as well as being executive chairman of Australian operations, told Mumbrella: “I feel very humbled and privileged to be taking the role. I am really looking forward to getting into it.”
IPG Mediabrands agencies include media agencies UM, Initiative and BPN, search unit Reprise, branded content house Ensemble and mobile operation Mnet.
Tajer said he would move to New York later in the year and a search was getting underway for his successor, although he would initially continue to run the business himself.
“I will remain as chairman and Australia will continue to report into me,” Tajer said. “We will then work through the appointment of a new leader, we are not in a rush, we have what I believe is one of the strongest leadership teams in the marketplace.
“That has been a big part of my being about to perform the COO role and now take on this role. We will take our time to make sure we find the right candidate that fits with the business and enable us to take Mediabrands into its next chapter.”
Tajer will replace Matt Seiler who is moving into a chairman role. In a statement Interpublic CEO Michael Roth said: “Today’s announcement is part of a long-term game plan and a natural evolution for the management team.”
Roth said: “It acknowledges Matt and Henry’s contributions to the agency’s achievements and positions them to focus on specific areas in which they can both continue to make key contributions to Mediabrands and IPG going forward.”
Tajer was promoted to the role of COO in January 2014. Seiler has led Mediabrands since January 2011.
In 2013, Tajer spoke to Mumbrella’s content director Tim Burrowes about the media, society and his career.
