Talent reshuffle at Sky News Australia as The Front Page gets a new anchor

Sky News Australia’s The Front Page will have a new host from Monday 6 September, with Jenna Clarke set to host the news bulletin show, previewing the next day’s headlines.

This comes following Peter Gleeson’s move within the network, to take up the new role of Queensland editor, which he will also be starting on Monday.

Clarke joins Sky News from The West Australian where she was an assistant editor, she is also a host on Triple M Perth. She will anchor the show each week Monday through Thursday. Clarke has past experience working across Australian titles including The Sydney Morning Herald, Harper’s Bazaar Australia and Buzzfeed.

On her new role, Clarke said: “I’m thrilled to take the mantle as the new anchor of The Front Page. Newspapers are my passion, and no-one does them better than the mastheads around Australia. I’m so excited to share tomorrow’s news today and breaking those stories ahead of anyone else.”

Gleeson’s new role will see him “drive the state’s news agenda with exclusive reporting and leading analysis across a range of Sky News programming” according to the broadcaster.

Gleeson was previously a media commentator and editor of The Sunday Mail, The Gold Coast Bulletin and The Townsville Bulletin. He will also continue as a columnist for News Corp mastheads.

Paul Whittaker, CEO of Sky News Australia, said: “We’re delighted that Peter Gleeson takes up the role of Sky News Queensland editor delivering a voice for our Queensland viewers, a position that will become even more crucial as we get closer to the upcoming election. Peter is one of Australia’s most experienced newspaper journalists and editors, and a valued member of our team as host of a number of shows including The Front Page for several years.”

“We welcome Jenna Clarke as anchor of The Front Page and look forward to her broadcasting weeknights direct from the Sky News Perth Studio.”

Whittaker is set to appear at the latest senate hearing for the media diversity in Australia inquiry, which will reconvene on Monday 6 September after it was postponed last month following a snap lockdown in Canberra.

The hearing was recalled following Sky News Australia’s ban by YouTube in July, following the broadcaster breaching the video platform’s COVID-19 misinformation policies in 21 different videos.

News Corp co-chairman Lachlan Murdoch has also been asked to appear before the committee on Monday, with committee chair, Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young confirming the invitation to Mumbrella yesterday.

Sky News Australia also launched its new regional news channel last month, Sky News Regional.
