Talking up the market
Let’s hope there isn’t a property price slump in the second half of the year. It would leave the likes of the SMH and news.com.au looking a little foolish wouldn’t it?
Still, no doubt the titles’ valuable real estate advertisers were delighted to read today’s cheerleading articles. Let’s hope readers don’t blame them if it doesn’t work out that way…
A ‘tick upwards’
‘The market overall is in good shape’
‘I expect prices to go up’.
‘some confidence…should continue’.
Wonderful stuff. Except that no one quoted in the article actually says that prices will go up, or even if they expect it, how or why.
‘A tick upwards’ could be clearance % rates, but there might be a lot more property churning through at lower prices.
‘the market overall is in good shape’ means nothing. Good for what? Buying, selling, waiting, holding? Renting out, living in, negative gearing, good capital growth, good rental growth?
‘I expect prices to rise’ – yes well if you’re buying you would, wouldn’t you? Who buys hoping the market goes down afterwards?
‘some confidence…should continue’ – solid solid stuff there. Really awesome.
Heaven help anyone using them as an influencer to purchase.

Every year it’s the same thing. Choice looked into this last year.
