Telstra introduces grandpa in BigPond TV ad
Telstra has launched the latest instalment of its long-running BigPond TV ads featuring the father and son characters, Patrick and Daniel.
The seventh episode in the series, created by Belgiovane Williams Mackay, introduces the grandfather character.
It centres on the theme “Don’t let your family grow apart” which is featured in the endline. It aims to build on the original campaign which focused on the dangers of children being left behind in their education.
BWM said: “It’s always a challenge to write scripts for Patrick and Daniel because they don’t have broadband and therefore working the product into the storyline is tricky. Introducing Grandpa we get to understand where the font of misinformation that led to ‘Rabbits’ really began. We get the feeling that the gentle bending of the truth is, in fact, a time honoured tradition that gets passed down from generation to generation.”
In April, Telstra BigPond launched an ad campaign featuring well known Australian sites such as the Sunshine Coast’s Big Pineapple and Melbourne and Sydney’s Luna Park.

What a poor effort. Tenuous link at best to the product message and specatacularly unfunny.

Not entirely unamusing, but my first reaction was “wtf does it have to do with the internet?”

It relies very heavily on viewers being familiar with the past exploits of this Telstra Family. I’m not sure I’d bet on that …

c’mon telstra and bwm, time to move on..this is so old, boring, no link to product whatsoever…very much a case of ‘flogging a dead horse’..there’s no idea here, just an execution that’s run it’s course….

love the rabbits but this is a NO from me.
Their current outdoor is very different though. Barry Hall with his hand up the turkey’s clacker trying to make good on his bad behaviour this year. Very funny and very different from telstra. Good work!

Don’t be so cruel.
If you’ve ever come within a country mile of Telstra Strategic Marketing, you’ll know Great Wall Of China is what got most of them where they are today.
Sadly, since that success was by accident rather than design, they are likely blissfully unaware that this is utter drivel.
