Telstra launches broadcast platform Telstra Dynamic Connect
Telstra Broadcast Services has launched Telstra Dynamic Connect, a managed broadcast platform delivering high-quality content connectivity from across Australia.
The announcement:
Telstra Broadcast Services (TBS) has launched Telstra Dynamic Connect, a next generation broadcast connectivity and services platform that delivers assured connectivity and content from venues and events across Australia. This fully managed, software-defined network for venues, sporting codes and broadcasters is scaled to handle multiple IP production models, allowing cost-effective, assured production from more places.
Powered by new advancements in Telstra’s global network, Telstra Dynamic Connect harnesses internet fibre, satellite and advanced 5G technology. Using diversity and reliability, these services provide the throughput and reliable performance demanded by live events to bring critical high-quality broadcasts to air.
Telstra is significantly investing in its 5G network, including an $800 million increase in mobile network investment over the next four years. This cutting-edge technology allows Telstra to customise solutions tailored to specific customer needs to enable optimal performance for various applications. Telstra Broadcast Services will add 5G as a key pillar of the Telstra Dynamic Connect assured service offering.
Telstra Broadcast Services CEO Karen Clark said, “With Telstra Dynamic Connect, broadcasters and sporting codes can move faster, reach further and capture stories once thought impossible due to cost and resource constraints. By harnessing the power of Telstra’s global network – including 5G, fibre, internet and satellite – and managing how it’s accessed, customers within Australia can now deliver live, broadcast-quality content and only pay for what they need, when they need it.”
Telstra Dynamic Connect is expanding access to broadcast-grade connectivity across Australia, empowering more fans to watch their teams play—whether at metropolitan stadiums or regional community sports venues. By increasing reach, clubs and sporting organisations unlock new revenue opportunities through sponsorships and advertising. Additionally, venues benefit from greater facility utilisation, including increased demand for venue hire and hospitality services.
Clark added, “Traditional broadcasting methods are typically expensive and require significant infrastructure, therefore limiting broadcasts to major sporting leagues and live events. With Telstra Dynamic Connect, Telstra Broadcast Services provides increased coverage for more venues, sporting codes and broadcasters, irrespective of their size or location.”
From an operational perspective, Telstra Dynamic Connect’s industrial edge compute units are installed on-site at the venue by Telstra and managed, monitored and orchestrated by TBS. Input can be directly from cameras or production equipment onsite into the edge and the delivery can be to anywhere on any platform that the customer requires, from a mainstream broadcast channel to an internet stream.
Clark added, “The edge compute component of Telstra Dynamic Connect is a key differentiator, allowing us to deploy based on the required workflows of our customers. Leveraging an extensive service ecosystem, it’s designed for both current and future production models, ensuring the adoption of new services as they are released.”
Telstra Dynamic Connect offers its users many features and benefits as network and services are tightly automated, thus enabling rapid deployment. It also enjoys open standards of integration so customers can use their own ecosystem without risk of integration issues and enables remote integration production models, reducing production costs. There is also seamless integration with Telstra’s recently released Adaptive Networks, advanced 5G and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite, enabling redundancy and resilience with maximum service flexibility. To support cost-effectiveness, it includes flexible pricing models that allow users to only pay for what they use.
With dedicated 24/7 broadcast operational support observing and monitoring the platform, broadcasters and access-seekers can have the assurance that services will be available and reliable every time they book. The platform also allows multiple independent interfaces for broadcast and non-broadcast services such as video, internet, talkback, telemetry and Camera Control Unit (CCU) and multiple independent interfaces for access.
Karen Clark concluded, “For too long, broadcasting games and events has been hindered by prohibitive set-up costs, depriving fans of thrilling experiences. But that’s about to change. With our mission of building a connected future, we are committed to leveraging the latest technology to create a transformative impact across media and sport. We are poised to deliver unparalleled connectivity and bring fans closer to the action than ever before.”
