Telstra launches new rewards program for customers

Telstra has announced a new rewards program for customers which will give them the ability to earn points on their monthly phone spend.

Under the new Telstra Plus scheme customers can then use those points for discounts on new products and technology.

Telstra CEO Andy Penn said the program will also deliver more entertainment benefits and other rewards as part of the company’s T22 transformation announced last June.

An early victim of the T22 reorganisation was Telstra’s CMO Joe Pollard who left the month after Penn revealed the plan that includes shedding 8,000 jobs.

“Australians have more choice than ever before when it comes to their telco provider and millions of our customers choose to join and stay with Telstra for their connectivity, technology and entertainment needs,” said Penn.

“Many of our customers have been with us since before the days of internet and mobile phones and, as we start to unlock the latest generation of technology through 5G, Telstra Plus is our way of saying thank you for being with us today as we move through an exciting time,” continued Penn.

Customers who sign up before 30 June 2019 will receive bonus credits with points accumulating for Telstra Plus members from 14 May. These will later be able to be used in exchange for discounts on devices and accessories.

Other benefits to be offered by the scheme include discount sport and movie tickets, pre-sale tickets, complimentary extras and VIP services. The Telstra Plus online shop will open later in the year.

“[Telstra Plus] follows a number of customer-first initiatives under T22, including the removal of excess data charges on mobile plans, an expanded suite of add-ons to consumer plans and the introduction of no lock-in fees across a range of business and home broadband services. This will culminate in the launch of 20 no lock-in plans in June,” Penn concluded.
