Ten and WIN confirm Northern NSW regional affiliate TV deal

Network Ten content will be supplied to the WIN Network across its Northern NSW television license areas, as a result of a new affiliation agreement deal between the two entities.

The five-year deal begins from 1 July 2021, and will see content from free-to-air channels, 10, 10 Bold and 10 Peach, broadcast into Northern NSW on WIN.

ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand chief operating and commercial officer and executive vice president, Jarrod Villani, said: “We are pleased to continue our relationship with WIN and renew the affiliate agreement for Northern NSW.

“WIN are a valued broadcast partner and we believe the outcome from these discussions collectively benefits both companies.”

The deal is the latest in a string of regional affiliate agreements across commercial Australian television networks to take place this year, as various deals between national and regional broadcasters came to their conclusions.

WIN already has a deal in place to broadcast Nine’s metropolitan free-to-air content, including multi-channel content from 9Go, 9Gen, and 9Life, across Tasmania, regional Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland, and southern New South Wales.

Ten had no comment to share on the value of the deal, or the percentage of advertising revenue that WIN will pay as part of the deal.

Andrew Lancaster, chief executive officer of WIN, said: “The continuation of Network 10 content on our channels in Northern NSW is a great win for our viewers who enjoy channels 10, 10 Bold and 10 Peach.

“We look forward to working with Ten over the next five years to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.”

Ten previously held a five-year regional affiliate agreement with WIN that began in 2016 when Nine ended its own agreement with WIN over a lawsuit involving 9Now.

At that time, Nine signed on for five years with Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), but that deal ended in March when Nine went back to WIN, signing an agreement with WIN for at least seven years with the regional media company to pay Nine about half of its regional advertising revenue.

That move saw Ten to sign its own agreement with SCA to supply its programs for broadcast by SCA in the regional Queensland, southern New South Wales and regional Victoria commercial television license areas.

Then, in May, Sky News Australia struck its own regional affiliate deal to have its new programming broadcast across SCA’s regional markets and on select WIN Network regions.

As part of the latest deal, Ten said it expects to make further announcements in relation to regional affiliation agreements shortly.
