Ten daily appoints Mel Cornford as managing editor

Ten has announced the appointment of Mel Cornford as managing editor of ten daily, the network’s as-yet-to-be-launched entertainment and lifestyle site.

Cornford joined Ten in 2016 as project lead on ten daily, and has been developing the site since then.

The site is described by Ten as a “standalone, mobile-optimised website that will be rich in short-form video content and offer premium and exclusive entertainment, lifestyle, opinion news and sport content.”

The network made mention of its new site in both 2016’s and 2017’s upfronts, with it expected to finally launch at some point this year.

Before Ten, Cornford contributed to 9Honey, and before that was head of lifestyle, entertainment and travel at Yahoo7 ANZ. She’s previously worked for Vogue Australia and marie claire.

Network Ten general manager, digital, Liz Baldwin, said: “Mel has been integral to the creation of ten daily and I’m delighted to welcome her as the website’s managing editor.

“Mel’s impressive background leading digital editorial teams across many top online brands made her perfect for the role and her editorial vision has been key to the development to ten daily.”

Lisa Wilkinson was appointed as ten daily’s executive editor in December last year, a role which she holds alongside her hosting duties on Ten’s The Project.

“Together with Lisa as executive editor of ten daily, we have an impressive editorial team dedicated to bringing a fresh entertainment and news brand to Australians everywhere,” Baldwin added.

More editorial appointments will be announced soon.
