Ten finally confirms Masterchef will return on 20 April

Ten has revealed the return of its tentpole reality show Masterchef Australia will take place on Tuesday, 20 April at 7.30pm.

The show was an outstanding success for the network in 2020, as it welcomed a new panel of judges, with Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen to replace outgoing trio Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris.

Zonfrillo, Leong and Allen were welcomed with open arms by viewers, and will all return to the judging table for the 13th season of the program, where regular Aussies will once again battle it out for a winner’s prize of $250,000.

Ten’s air date announcement TVC features  images of plated-up food, backed by a voiceover from each of the judges.

“You think you know food? This season will blow your socks off,” Leong says, before Allen adds: “It’s the best food we’ve ever seen.”

The 2021 season of Masterchef will again welcome internationally renowned chefs to challenge contestants, with this year’s lineup including Heston Blumenthal, Massimo Bottura, Nigella Lawson, Yotam Ottolenghi and Clare Smyth.

Local chefs will also play a part, with Callum Hann, Scott Pickett, Reynold Poernomo, Darren Purchese, Curtis Stone, Kirsten Tibballs, Alla Wolf-Tasker and Poh Ling Yeow.

Zonfrillo, Leong and Allen return in 2021

The 2020 Back to Win series was immensely successful, as it welcomed back past contestants in an ‘all-star’ style format of the show, and capitalised on a nation turning to the kitchen as pandemic lockdowns took place.

It launched to an average of 1.268 million metro viewers, a 71.1% increase on the year prior, and maintained regular high ratings throughout the season, culminating in 1.523 million metro viewers tuning in for the winner’s announcement.
