The race was momentarily stopped after an accident which saw Fernando Alonso’s car flip repeatedly before crumbling to pieces and hitting a barrier at turn three of the Albert Park circuit after the Spaniard clipped the rear of Esteban Gutierrez of Haas Racing at full-speed while trying to pass him around the outside on lap 17 of 57.

The halt to the race saw the podium part of the broadcast take place just before 6:00pm, as opposed to the scheduled 5:35pm, with 709,000 metro viewers tuning in to see Nico Rosberg take out first place as Australian Daniel Ricciardo missed out on the podium, taking fourth place.

The post-race broadcast, airing from 6:10pm, was watched by 463,000 metro viewers. The podium was the most-watched show amongst 16-39 year olds and 25-54 year olds.
