Ten’s multimedia drama Secrets and Lies launches to 403,000 metro viewers

Ten’s release of the much anticipated multi-platform murder mystery Secrets and Lies launched to 403,000 metro viewers and finished fourth in its timeslot last night, against strong competition from Seven and Nine.

Secrets and Lies, a format acquired by Channel Five in the UK and ABC Studios in the US, started at 8:30pm after months of heavy promotion from Ten, but struggled to win a big audience as My Kitchen Rules held 1.695m viewers from 7.30pm to 9pm on Seven and The Block had 1.197m between 7.40pm to 9pm on Nine, its biggest audience yet for a Monday night.

The Ten murder mystery is using multimedia platforms to provide viewers with extra clues to help them work out who killed a young boy, and last night focussed on the story of his neighbour who found his body.

Nine’s recently launched drama series Love Child had 1.166m metro viewers from 9pm, as Seven’s US import Revenge averaged 855,000 at the same time.

Secrets and Lies was fourth in its timeslot as ABC1’s Four Corners averaged 604,000 and Media Watch had 621,000.

Ten was fourth for the night with an 8.1 per cent audience share, after recording a 6.8 per cent share last week. Ten’s lowest share was in Adelaide where it tied with Nine’s digital channel Go with 6.7 per cent.

The top show for the network was Ten Eyewitness News with 596,000 metro viewers from 5pm, followed by the Project which had 534,000 from 7pm.

ABC1 had 13 per cent for its lineup of news and current affairs.

Nine’s coverage of the 86th Annual Academy Awards brought in 560,000 viewers from 12.30pm to 4pm, and the channel won the 6pm news hour with 1.235m metro viewers for the first half hour and 1.181m for the second. Nine also had 1.077m viewers for A Current Affair from 7pm while Home and Away averaged 853,000 on Seven.

Nine won the night with a 27.2 per cent share of the audience while Seven had 24.4 per cent.

Nine’s digital Channel Go! was fifth for the night with a 4.4 per cent share tying with Ten in Adelaide.
