Ten Network introduces live poker game for revenue raiser
Channel Ten’s digital channel One is to start airing a Tuesday night show in which viewers can play along live to poker hands being shown on screen in the hope of winning $500.
Poker Showdown, which has already been tested in regional broadcasts, sees four Texas Holdem poker hands drawn on screen along with a five card board. Viewers have two minutes to send in a 55c text guessing the winner. Those guessing correctly go into a draw to win a Sanity music voucher ranging from $100 to $500 with each winner announced before the next hand begins.
There are eight games within each one hour show.
Mobile technology firm OpenMarket and Southern Cross Austereo were involved in developing the show. Robert Huxley, executive producer of the show, said: “We have broken new ground. We are delighted with how successfully the show ran in such a dynamic format with winners announced virtually instantly. We know this is an Australian first, but it may also be a world first.”

So 8 hands per hour means we’re getting 7mins 30s per hand, of which 2 mins is the actual hand itself.
Can’t wait to see the other 5:30 of analysis, instant replays, and advertising.

Hang-on. Is that description right?
“Viewers have two minutes to send in a 55c text guessing the winner. Those guessing correctly win a Sanity music voucher ranging from $100 to $500 with each winner announced before the next hand begins.”
There are four hands. So you have a 1/4 chance of guessing the winning hand.
That means that with a $2.20 investment (one pick on each hand) you a guaranteed a win – and you are guaranteed to win a voucher worth a minimum of $100 !
Or would it be more correct to say that only one of those who guess correctly is given a voucher?

Not sure a programme which encourages gambling is a good idea.
