Ten using new season of Offspring to boost TenPlay subscribers
Network Ten is using the interest in its upcoming new season of Offspring to help boost its TenPlay catch up TV platform, encouraging people to sign up by next Monday June 27 to receive advanced access to episode one of the new series.
The move is similar to one trialled by Nine two years ago with its local drama Love Child, with Ten offering exclusive access to the episode from 9am on June 27 for people who have signed up to TenPlay and registered their interest.
It will be made available for 40 hours, with the series kicking off next Wednesday on Channel Ten in the 8:30pm time slot.
Network Ten head of drama, Rick Maier, said: “We know just how much fans of Offspring have wanted their show back on air, and it’s that genuine excitement that has helped make all this a possibility.
“It seems only fair we acknowledge just how important the audience is with a sneak peek for the true believers. It’s a real privilege to see Nina and the gang back on Ten, and we hope you enjoy the start of this brand new season as much as we do.”
The broadcaster is also making the whole of season five available on the platform to allow viewers to catch up, after a two-year hiatus for one of Ten’s most popular programs.
It is also launching a series of seven webisodes in July to encourage fans to engage further with the show
Network Ten general manager – digital, Liz Baldwin, said: “Offspring has always been a star performer for TenPlay, with fans keen to relive or catch-up on every episode and learn more about the Proudmans.
“We know people are very excited about the return of Offspring and we’re very happy to be able to give them a special look at the first episode. But it’s a limited time offer, so you will need to get in quick.”
Will they be streaming multiple ads throughout the episodes?
I don’t mind using the internet I pay for to watch catch up shows when the ads have been removed. Channel 7 and 9 do this. But Tenplay continue put multiple boring ads at the beginning and during shows. If I wanted to watch ads I watch commercial TV!
I could live with one ad before a program starts but Ten have gone all out to ruin our viewing pleasure by putting more ads when you stream than when its shown on normal commercial TV.
I refuse to watch anything on Tenplay because of multiple ads and I deleted the app straight away. It’s just another money grab and an insult to those of us who wish to stream TV.
