Tennis Australia launches ad to get more people playing tennis
Tennis Australia has launched a new campaign featuring US Open champion Sam Stosur that encourages tennis watchers to become tennis players.
The TV spot goes to air on Seven and Fox Sports to coincide with coverage of the Australian Tennis Open, which attracted 9.4m viewers last year.
The agency behind the ad was M&C Saatchi Melbourne.
M&C Saatchi Melbourne creative director Doogie Chapman said: “A quintessentially tennis saying, the line ‘Ready? Play’ is an invitation to each viewer. It’s the tennis way of asking, ‘want to get involved?’ or ‘how about having a go yourself?’. And it’s intentionally a question because more than just awareness, this campaign is all about motivating a response.
“‘Play’ is the other essential piece of the puzzle,” Chapman added. “In a time when we know Australians are leading increasingly stressful and busy lives, we want to pose tennis as the happy antidote.”
It is soooo bad. And I can’t understand a word they are singing.

Now if we could just replace the rackets with boats we might solve another problem.

exactly why is it sooooo bad?
There is an idea, that tennis is can be played and enjoyed by everyone all over the joint. I think tennis is still seen as a little bit un-obtainable by many – court memberships, prestigious clubs etc – this goes some way to counter that
shame stoser crashsed out so early tho!

I like it. I think as Richie has said it simply puts forward that you can play tennis at all ages and it’s not an exclusive sport.
I’m just not sure how much I will remember it. But you know what, I thought about playing tennis that little bit more after watching it.

It’s actually an interesting study in how important production values and budgets can be, when you watch that tennis spot and the auskick spot back to back.
They’re basically the exact same idea, except one had probably triple the production budget and it shows. The Auskick spot is infinitely more charming and enjoyable, thanks to the talent, locations, soundtrack and other little things that a proper budget can bring.

At the moment you’d probably back the young girl at the end to beat Sam…..
