Ten’s share dips to 7.9% on Wednesday night as MKR and The Voice battle heats up
It was a tough night for Ten on Anzac Day, as its share fell to 7.9% in the absence of Bachelor in Paradise and strong competition from rivals Seven and Nine.
According to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary ratings, just two of Ten’s shows were in the top 20 last night – The Project at 7:00pm and Ten Eyewitness News First at Five.
The shows pulled in 469,000 metro viewers and 426,000 metro viewers respectively.
In the 7:30pm time slot, competing against Seven’s My Kitchen Rules and Nine’s The Voice was Bondi Rescue, which did not make the top 20. The Graham Norton Show, which ran later in the evening, also did not make the top 20.
The result comes ahead of a the final two episodes of Bachelor in Paradise, which will kick off this Sunday.
Meanwhile, My Kitchen Rules maintained its lead for yet another night, finishing with a 1.148m metro viewers. According to amended numbers provided by Nine, The Voice finished with a metro audience 954,000. OzTAM had recorded The Voice’s Perth audience as zero, due to a coding error.
All key advertising demographics, the 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s, were won by My Kitchen Rules.
Seven also had a successful afternoon, with the Anzac Day AFL clash between the Collingwood Magpies and Essendon Bombers pulling in 686,000 viewers across the Seven network.
Nine’s Anzac Day NRL match between Sydney Roosters and the St George Illawarra Dragons attracted 342,000 metro viewers between Sydney and Brisbane. The largest audience came from Sydney – 220,000.
ABC also had a number of programs in the top 20 last night. Its Anzac Day March morning coverage averaged 491,000 metro viewers while the Gallipoli Dawn Service had a metro audience of 368,000.
Later in the evening, Hard Quiz, which ran at 8:00pm, averaged 567,000 metro viewers and Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell finished with a metro audience of 534,000.
The 6:00pm news battle was won by Seven News. As the most-watched program of the evening, the bulletin achieved 1.322m metro viewers. Its largest audience was in Melbourne. Nine News had a metro audience of 979,000, with its biggest audience from Sydney.
Overall, Seven pinched another win, with a 23.2% main channel share over Nine’s 22.9%. ABC beat Ten’s 7.9% share, finishing at 10.5%. SBS’ share was 5.1%.
